Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart GR-1 Griddler Panini and Sandwich Press

Customer Review: Great Lttle Grill
Summary: 5 Stars

Hi, Everyone,

I purchaced this grill primarily for toasting buttered bread(i.e. cuban toast) for my 5 year old and we love it.
Although it's small, it's quick (and very hot!). We use it almost daily, not just for the cuban toast, but sandwiches and quesadillas.

Customer Review: Absolutely love it!!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been in the market for a panini press for a while now and after reading all the reviews, I chose this one... I am SO glad I did! Received it yesterday and used it for dinner to make provolone, tomato & spinach on sourdough. It took all of 3 minutes to heat up (if that)and 2-3 minutes to cook up some thick sandwiches. Delicious!!! Crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside... Isn't the biggest one I have ever seen but can fit 2 standard size sandwiches or 1 long, wide sandwich, that wasn't a huge issue due to how fast it took to get a sandwich grilled to perfection. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone in the market for a panini press!

Customer Review: Great Product
Summary: 5 Stars

This press makes great Panini and grilled sandwiches. It is compact in size, heats quickly and is easy to clean. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: The Real Deal
Summary: 4 Stars

So here's the real deal:

On the up-side, the Cuisinart Griddler is reasonably priced, well made, pleasing to look at, cleans fairly easily and does exactly what I bought it to do - it does an excellent job toasting and pressing panini style sandwiches.

On the down-side, when you plug it in, it's on - there's no on/off switch - which means that in my older home, it causes a spark at the outlet when it's unplugged; except for the press bar, the exterior gets VERY hot while in use; it's small, about 6 X 11 inches, so at best you can only do two sandwiches at a time; and, while the nonstick grill plates wipe clean easily, they are not removable - you can't toss 'em into the dish washer.

The Griddler works fine for a one or two person home, but if you have a couple of hungry kids; or little ones with curious hands, or a dog that counter surfs, (remember the case gets HOT); or do a lot of entertaining - this is not the machine for you.

[This paragraph is an "up date" to my original review, (above). I have now used the Griddler once or twice a week for more than six months. Unlike several of the other reviewers, I have had no trouble with the nonstick surface flaking or peeling, nor have I had any difficulty removing melted cheese, etc., from the grill plates. I still wish the plates were removable - my lovely wife would like nothing more than to immerse them in soapy water - but what the heck....]

Customer Review: breakfast lunch and dinner
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this thing. So easy to use and clean up which is very important as I like to cook but don't have a lot of extra time. I've been making egg and cheese paninis in the morning to tak in the car. The grill makes sure it stays stiuck together. I've also been using the machine for buritios as well. No need for a cookbook to go along with this, just put whatever you want in there - or whatever is left in the fridge.
