Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart Grind and Brew Thermal 10-Cup Coffee Maker DGB-600BCCustomer Review: A good cup of coffee with cleanup and noise. Summary: 4 StarsThis was my dream - grinder, coffee maker and thermos all in one.
After reading reviews here I was scared of the mess and the number of parts.
I asked a friend who had one about all the parts and she said that it wasn't bad
because she threw all the parts in the dishwasher. This works if you
run your dishwasher every day. But I still lusted over it and bought it.
I've decided I like this coffee maker but it isn't perfect.
It is a good choice if you like the fresh ground taste and can handle:
1. The noise - noiser than my seperate coffee bean grinder
(fortunately it isn't loud enough to wake up my household but who knows about yours....)
2. Can clean it up promptly (otherwise it is a pain)
3. Don't need it ultra strong (there is a limit on how much coffee you can put
in). I grew up on Peets coffee and I like it strong and this is weaker than I like it
but ok. Alternatively you can just make 8 cups of coffee and for me
with a full hopper it is great.
4. Can handle a slightly longer preparation process than with a machine that
takes ground coffee. (There is more assembly to make that pot.)
If I skimped on cleaning the pieces even if I didn't use the grinder it
just wasn't as good.
If you buy this coffee maker close the filter door before the top hopper.
It is so airtight that otherwise it doesn't close well.
Customer Review: No hot coffee Summary: 1 StarsIf you like your coffee hot, do not buy this maker. It has no warming pad to heat the thermal caraf. The heat from the coffee heats the caraf when made resulting in luke warm coffee. The instructions say to pre-heat the caraf if you want hot coffee, which of course is impossible if you are using the program to make coffee in the morning. I immediately returned this maker.
Customer Review: Cold coffee Summary: 2 StarsI bought this for my father as a b-day gift and I'm embarassed. I had to witness him heating up his mug, heating up the carafe, and heating his milk all before he could pour a cup of coffee. I don't like seeing my 70 yr old father struggle with pots and pans and hot water just so he can have is AM cup of joe. Unless you drink your coffee black and FAST, you will be stuck with cold coffee. But if you dare to put a drop of cream in your cup, you will need to use the mircowave(or any number of contraptions) to heat up your coffee. The "insulated" carafe is worthless.
Customer Review: BEST COFFEE EVER!!!!!!!!! Summary: 5 StarsI never write reviews but I had to write in to give this coffee maker the props it deserves. I don't know what these other people are talking about but I LOVE this coffee maker! Yes it is a little more "labor intensive" than just pouring ground coffee in a filter but it is soooo worth it! I just set it up the night before and in the morning the smell is so strong and rich I can't wait to get up and get a cup(the grinder will wake you up if your alarm doesn't go off though:)
It is a nice looking appliance matching all stainless steel and it does keep the coffee hot for hours(also a little tip to keep it warmer longer, if you're not doing it the night before, is to put hot water in the carafe to warm it up and than brew the coffee). It doesn't have a hot plate so you don't have to worry about that burnt taste. The carafe acts as a thermos to keep it hot. The flavor is just amazing. It's perfect everytime I brew it. I now prefer to drink coffee from home than paying a bunch of money to drink average to sometime below average coffee elsewhere.
Cleaning it is simple. I usually just clean it out after dinner while I'm doing dishes. You just have to get a little soapy water in the sink and put the grinder and filter holder in it, rinse out the carafe and then set up your coffee for the next morning and it's done. It takes all of 5 minutes. I truly can't say enough about it. I also got mine at Costco for [...], well worth it!
ENJOY!
Customer Review: What a Mess... Summary: 1 StarsBasically it sucks. Leaks 1 out of 4 pots... I don't know where it comes from, but there is always water leaking during the brewing process. I've come to keep a paper towel under the unit in anticipation of the leak to come. Brawny works best (product placement plug).
As others have noted, grinder is a mess. Must be cleaned out and dried between pots. We are at least a 2 pot per morning household. We have stopped using the built-in grinder and resorted back to the old Krups grinder and fill the basket manually.
Oh, did I mention that it is very difficult to POUR a cup... the way the spout is designed you have to practically turn the pot upside down to make it pour and then it dribbles all over the place. Make sure you pour over the sink to avoid another mess and having to clean the counter top yet a second time.
On the plus side... You look fabulous, dahling...
