Customer Review: An excellent ice cream maker and a super value!

I have had this ice cream maker for a few weeks now and have made four or five batches (1/2 gallons) of smooth and creamy ice cream. Each side makes one quart and you can set the machine to make one or two quarts of ice cream by flipping a control lever on the front which turns off one side or lets both side run. This allows you to make up to two different flavors at the same time.
PROS
----
1. Works well - I read some reviews which said that they couldn't get the mix to harden. All I can say is I had no trouble whatsoever.
2. Works fast - If you follow the instructions (have a well frozen bowl and cold cream mix) it will start thickening after about ten minutes or less. By 20 to 25 minutes or less, it's as hard as it will get, about the consistency of soft serve ice cream like Dairy Queen. We usually eat one bowl right away and put the second bowls contents into another container and put it in the freezer overnight. The next day it's just like store bought (only fresher and much tastier!).
3. Good quality - (as good as your ingredients.) We followed the basic included recipes and had great results with those as well as experimenting some with a 50/50 cream & whole milk ratio to reduce some of the fat. We even tried making gelato with recipes for home ice cream makers I found elsewhere. Gelato actually has less fat than ice cream as it's mostly whole milk. I had very good results with gelato too.
4. Inexpensive - We paid ~$50 which is a great price for a device thats works as well as this does.

1. A little noisy. No big deal though, you just hear the motor turning. It's really not that bad.
TIPS
----
1. After mixing your cream mix, put it back in the refrigerator or in the freezer for 10 minutes or so. Then take the mixing bowls out of the freezer just before you pour in the cream mix. The extra drop in temperature will really help speed up the freezing times. You'll be surprised at how fast it starts thickening.
2. To reduce fat content (but still have creamy smooth ice cream), try decreasing the heavy cream and increasing the whole milk by the same amount. I have tried 50/50 and it still comes out great!
3. Use only wooden or teflon spoons to scoop out the frozen mix from the mixing bowls. I learned this lesson the hard way on a previous brand and ended up scratching the mixing bowls.
