Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart ICE-40BK Flavor Duo Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt, and Sorbet MakerCustomer Review: A nice machine! Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great ice cream machine. I have owned a couple different brands over the years and this is by far the best. The ice cream comes out a little soft if you're expecting ice cream like what you'd buy in the store. But it is not store bought - it is home made. And it comes out a little soft like all home made ice cream. So you just put it in the freezer for an hour or two if you want it harder. The machine also comes with a recipe book so you can get started right away. I can confirm what other reviewers have written - it is a very loud machine. But that is definitely not a bad thing - its just the way it is. So if you're thinking about buying an ice cream machine, buy this one. It really does a nice job.
Description of Cuisinart ICE-40BK Flavor Duo Ice Cream, Frozen Yogurt, and Sorbet MakerCuisinart® lets you indulge guests and delight family with a variety of frozen desserts. With the touch of a button, this stunning brushed stainless steel dessert maker automatically starts the process. Ingredients are added to double-insulated freezer bowls through easy-pour spouts to create the smoothest, creamiest frozen desserts.
Creating either 1 or 2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home takes only about 20 minutes with this Cuisinart machine, and because it features two separate 1-quart chilling chambers, it can make two flavors at once. Salt, ice, and effort are not needed. Place the machine's chilling chambers in a freezer for about eight hours to thoroughly freeze the liquid between the walls. Then position one or both of the chambers atop the power base, insert the plastic paddles in the chambers, lock the transparent tops in place, and turn on the machine. (A switch activates one or two paddles as desired.) Add the ingredients in the chambers through openings in the top as the paddles turn. The chambers chill the ingredients to whatever consistency is desired, though dense treats are hard to make because the paddles churn in air. Users can add chocolate chips, chopped fruit, nuts, and other special ingredients toward the end. The chambers are nonstick for easy cleanup. Storing them in the freezer ensures frozen confections are only 20 to 40 minutes away when the mood strikes. With its power base encased in stainless steel, this sleek machine readily wipes clean. It carries a three-year warranty against defects. A detailed instruction booklet containing many recipes is included. --Fred Brack
