Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart KUA-17 1-3/4-Quart Cordless Automatic Electric KettleCustomer Review: Unreliable Summary: 1 StarsSTAY AWAY!! This kettle designed with a plastic contact mechanism (It is not visible, covered by the black bottom) which cannot stand the temperature of boiling water. It gradually melts, contacts getting loose, starts sparkling and eventually melts more plastic to make a SHORT CIRCUIT!!! Contacts are funny thin for it's power. I think it is made deliberately for shortening it life to force you to buy next one.
After disassembling this mechanism, trying to figure out the way to repair this kettle I put it to garbage incinerator. No more Cuisinart!!
Customer Review: No plastic parts touch the water. Dripless pour. Outstanding Summary: 5 StarsI investigated the product before purchasing because we didn't want an electric tea kettle that boiled water with plastic parts in contact with the water. Best electric tea kettle we've purchased in our life - Now 64 years old. Arrived at our door step sooner than promised with regular shipping. You will love it. Set the kettle on the base and press the button to initiate the boiling cycle. Shuts off automatically. When finished merely lift the kettle off the base that plugs into the wall.
Customer Review: Pretty kettle, but it didn't last long Summary: 3 StarsI went shopping for an electric kettle when my $10 plastic one died after 6 years of hard use. I picked this kettle because I'm a sucker for aesthetics and I didn't want another white plastic one. This kettle is nice enough to leave out on the counter top without embarrassment. I would prefer a kettle with a whistle, because I sometimes forget that I'm boiling water and walk away. Also, this didn't seem to boil water quite as quickly as my cheap plastic one.
It died after 7 months. I've treated it perfectly, never let water get on the base, never overfilled it. I was very upset, but when I called Cuisinart to complain they immediately apologized and sent me a new one. It was at my door a week later. They are supposed to have UPS come pick up the old one, but that hasn't happened yet.
I'll give it three stars. It's a good looking kettle, and there was no hassle getting a replacement. We'll see how long the replacement lasts...
Customer Review: Great product. We use this multiple times per day and it is great Summary: 5 StarsWe use this multiple times per day and it is great. Most of my family live in England and everyone has an electric kettle. I have learned the hard way that not everyone is familiar with these in the states. While having guests over on 2 occassions they placed the kettle on an open flame to heat up water. Not sure how they could mistake an electric kettle for something that is placed on the stove, especially since it sits on a base that is plugged into the wall. Anyways, after spending over $200 on kettles in the last year, I've learned to tell people the kettle is electric. Anyways, we love this kettle so much, we continue to purchase the same one after friends kill them. I obviouisly can't speak to the average life span, but we have never had a problem other than those mentioned above. Looks great on the counter and heats water very fast. Highly recommended.
Customer Review: Great - while it lasts Summary: 2 StarsLooks good. Easy to use. BUT... I've bought 3 of these: one died after 15 months, one after 12 months, the last my son toasted by putting it on a hot stove top ring (he has a design flaw too).
