Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart KUA-17 1-3/4-Quart Cordless Automatic Electric KettleCustomer Review: Cuisanart teapot's hot Summary: 5 StarsFor what's it's worth. I have had two. The first June '97 and the 2nd Dec 2002. Both times when it died it was kind of a shock. I use it to make a pot of tea a day and various times to make coffee. I like the way the older '97 model poured faster. I'm getting another today.
Customer Review: solid metal design Summary: 5 StarsI got this because of it's solid metal container area. It's a lot better than the cheaper plastic versions.
Heats water quickly (I never feel like I have to wait, because by the time a have a glass and a teabag, its done). Automatic shutoff will save you energy.
Also I'm a chemist and I worry about the paucity of data on brominated flame retardants that are added to the plastic products. This is more important for hot beverages than cold.
Customer Review: Avoid this kettle! Summary: 1 StarsI bought this kettle refurbished from Cuisinart. We use it regularly--probably everyday. About 1 week after the 90 day warranty expired it stopped working. I had read about others that have had the same problem, but knowing Cuisinart, figured it was just bad luck, since they make such great products. When I contacted customer service, they would do nothing for me. AVOID this kettle. Buy one from some one else, or a non refurb. I've never been so disappointed with a Cuisinart product.
Customer Review: Great while it lasted Summary: 1 StarsReally loved this kettle and used it everyday, but it gave out on us after 6 months. The previous model made by Cuisinart was better, although it was not cordless, it lasted many years (actually the older model still works, it's just a little corroded inside). So I figured this newer model would be even better. Considering how expensive it was, it should have lasted longer. I'm very disappointed as I thought Cuisinart usually made solid products.
Customer Review: this kettle = rad Summary: 5 Starsi received this kettle as a gift 5 years ago. it still works as well as the day i got it. i use it a minimum of twice a day. i've never actually timed it, but i have raced it against a pot of water on the stove. it wins everytime. save energy and time when you make pasta by boiling the water in the kettle first! the autoshutoff is much appreciated also, because as a certified knucklehead, i've been known to ruin pans by evaporating all of the water out and forgetting to turn off the stove.
so i loved this kettle so much, i bought it for a friend as a gift and to replace his awful screaming, hot-handled, stovetop rubbish kettle.
