Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Cuisinart TPC19-16 MultiClad Pro Stainless 2-Quart Saucepan with LidCustomer Review: solid piece Summary: 4 Stars
this thing is built like a tank, its indestructible. my father tried to kill it by leaving it on the stove overnight (he went to sleep and forgot that it was on) and as a result the inside surface became permanently discolored (there was water in it which all boiled out and in the morning the metal surface was glowing red and all the chemicals from tapwater apparently fused into this red-hot metal permanently) but functionally it still works like new. Any unit with plastic in it (like plastic handle) would have been totally destroyed but this is all-metal so it will last forever.
the material is very very thick ... perhaps too thick. that its thick enough to distribute heat is not even a question. problem is that despite the small size the unit is still quite heavy. another problem is that the handle is very long so while it allows the handle to stay cool it is hard to fit into fridge. the handle itself is very thick and solid stainless steel and adds significant weight.
overall this saucepan is more like a weapon from WW1 than something made for cooking. it is about twice as solid and heavy as it should have been. if you want something that will outlive you and your children - get it. if you are a 90 pound girl - look elsewhere because i am a 200 pound man and it even feels heavy for me.
the reason i am only giving it 4 stars is because my Kitchenaid pan has more beautiful finish (stainless steel on Kitchenaid is more lustrous). Also my Calphalon has a sexier handle - more interesting lines plus 3 rivets. This Cuisinart is just a slightly less beautiful option with the same high quality and at one half the price.
excellent for the money, but if you want the best (most beautiful) - get kitchenaid. both are worth the money.
ps: i only use products that sandwich aluminum between two layers of stainless steel whether it is cusinart, kitchenaid or calphalon. this is the only type of construction that at the same time allows for even heating and extraordinary durability. i also only buy units with all-metal handles and all-metal lids as those match the durability of the pan itself. avoid plastic handles and nonstick cooking surfaces at all cost. use glass lids only if you aren't clumsy.
Description of Cuisinart TPC19-16 MultiClad Pro Stainless 2-Quart Saucepan with LidDesigned for serious cooks, Cuisinart's MultiClad stainless pots and pans heat quickly and uniformly thanks to an aluminum core bonded between layers of 18/10 stainless steel. The core runs across the bottoms and all the way up the sides of the cookware to disperse heat evenly throughout food. The nonreactive interior layer is highly polished so it's naturally stick-resistant as well as resistant to discoloration and corrosion. A polished band just below each pan's rim handsomely accents the brushed exterior. In addition, a deep-set, tight-fitting, polished lid; a tapered rim for drip-free pouring; and a polished handle riveted for strength make this classic, straight-sided, 2-quart saucepan ideal for myriad cooking tasks. Oven-safe to 500 degrees F, the pan measures 6-3/4 inches in diameter and 3-1/2 inches deep. Though it's dishwasher-safe, hand washing is recommended to maintain the pan's beauty throughout its lifetime warranty against defects. --Fred Brack
